2.008 – Design and Manufacturing II

2.008 is the intro level manufacturing class at MIT for mechanical engineering students. In the class, students learn about various manufacturing topics including: design for manufacturing, CNC machining, injection molding, thermoforming, metal forming, metal casting, and 3D printing. As a semester long group project, students need to design and manufacture 50 yo-yos using injection molding and thermoforming.

My group made a New England mountain theme yo-yo. I came up with the mountain design, and worked on the mountain CAD along with the assembly. For manufacturing, my friend Amy and I did the injection molding for the mountain topography. We designed the mold and did the production for the parts. Additionally, I did the laser cutting for the New England map.
