Electric Go-Kart

April 2012 – June 2012

I made a go-kart using extra parts from my high school's FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team. It's an old robot chassis that was originally meant for mechanum wheels (hence four separate gear boxes). I decided to add an extra CIM motor to each gearbox, which leads to two motors per wheel and eight in total on the vehicle. For the seat, I used a school chair with its legs cut off. The control system is the same as any FRC robot, but without a wireless router. The driver station is essentially mounted to the robot so that the driver can operate it while sitting on it. The entire vehicle runs off of 2 Optima Blue Top Marine Starter batteries (each has 50 ampere hours).
